WONDERING (10 min statement, 5 min rejoin) - An idea or work you are pondering

What are you wondering about related to equity, diversity, and/or social justice in science education? For this session, your proposal should describe a “wondering” or issue of interest as well as a “venture” or possible response to the wondering. This might involve a conceptual, methodological, or other kind of issue in science education you are puzzled about and wish to bring to the community. This is a good venue for pushing the boundaries of our own theoretical and methodological frameworks and exploring ways to get out of our comfort zones. This is also a great space for teachers to share ideas for addressing issues about which they have been wondering. The conference teams will group together presenters who share similar threads of wonderings and/or ventures in relation to the conference theme. All wondering sessions are led by a facilitator and adhere to a tightly structured format as follows:

Statement: 10 minutes for the presenter to describe the Wondering (without interruption),

Clarify: 2 minutes for participants to ask clarifying questions of the presenter,

Incubate: 8 minutes for participants to discuss the presenter’s Wondering and Venture (while the presenter listens in without speaking), and finally,

Rejoin: 5 minutes for the presenter to respond, ask questions, or summarize what they've heard.

Proposal Development Requirements: Wondering Block

Proposals should address the following in 750 words or less:

  1. What are you wondering about?

  2. What is your venture (your suggested response to this wondering)?

  3. What conceptual or theoretical approaches inform your thinking?

  4. Why is your wondering important to equity, diversity and/or social justice in science education?
